Top 5 (or so) Male TV Characters (in numerical order)
1. Logan Echolls. Enough said.
2. Brian Krakow. I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE Brian.
3. Daniel Osbourne. Oz. I was CRUSHED when Oz left the show and then came back to claim Willow but discovered that she was... you know... a lesbian.
4. Angel. But pre-Angel and more Buffy time period.
5. Jess Mariano. Pre-getting getting kicked out of school and post-television show spin-off failure.
6. Mason. ("You're Der-outer-here!")
Runners up include Ricky Vasquez, Lindsey McDonald, Doyle, and Aaron Tyler!

I read his argument and am struck by how much sense it makes; of course, only high-rated shows are stuffed full of quality. Of course, how silly of me. That is exactly why CSI spawned two offspring that are less than half the quality of the original, and Law and Order has four million spin-offs floating around the air despite the fact that it is overhyped bullshit! It's because it is all excellent television that "result[s] from good writing and direction and from appealing to all through quality". Oh yeah, of course. However, Veronica Mars is "ageist" and panders to a demographic. No, the overabundance of medical and criminal dramas floating on any given channel certainly doesn't appeal to a demographic, the appeal is universal! Of course! Grandparents, parents, and grandchildren can all watch it together because they are riveted by the quality television going on before them. I certainly gather around the television every single week with my mom to watch "Everybody Loves Raymond" because the impact of that show just transcends age boundaries and appeals to all people, educated or not; everyone knows THAT is good television. But then again, could the simple fact that the regular viewers of Mr. Sharp's so-called "quality" television are most likely uneducated, ignorant red-necks provide any support of the argument that Veronica Mars is underwatched because it is intelligent television? Unlike series which feature writing that drastically declines in quality for successive seasons (ie: Lost, I'm looking at you here), Veronica Mars has shown consistent, excellent writing and storylines. It is undeniably sharp, witty and intelligent. I doubt any viewer is capable of catching 100% of the cultural, literary, and music references fired in rapid sequence every single week. And frankly, any series that can support a full season mystery arc and not become some soap opera drama mish-mash is a series that I want to continue watching. Also, any series that doesn't depreciate into a romantic entanglement of men and women hooking up simply because they are out of characters, storylines, and character development (I'm looking at you Grey's Anatomy!), is a series that should be considered "quality" regardless of the demographic that watches it.
Mr. Sharp's argument is flawed by the misconception that "teenager" or "young adult" television only caters to a young demographic. Veronica Mars appeals to people of all ages and making a blatant biased comment that the show is ageist just indicates that Mr. Sharp is bitter over the loss of his teeth and his massive incontinence. Mr. Sharp, I am indeed sorry for the overwhelming cost of adult diapers but perhaps you should have taken your metamucil before you opened your mouth. Furthermore, if Veronica Mars does cater to a younger demographic (which I do not believe it does), then who is to say that only a young demographic watches the show or that only a young demographic is capable of liking or understanding the show? I doubt that the countless numbers of television critics who have praised the show are indeed 17 year old teenager girls. If they are, I am highly impressed with the magnitude of their professional success. On the other hand, if Veronica Mars does not cater to a young demographic, how can it be faulted if it is watched by one? Simply because a younger demographic makes up a key percentage of viewers does not highlight a show as being low quality. Is "Days of our Lives" a quality show simply because it is watched by adult women? Is "American Choppers" an excellent show worthy of praise because it is watched by adult men? Is Billy Graham's Christmas Special the best thing you have ever seen because it is only watched by men and women older than my grandfather?
Also, Mr. Sharp declares that "it looks like the new CW network will just be another UPN or WB as they have announced their intention of continuing the senseless pursuit of, frankly ageist, young demographics". Oh, is that surprising to you? How dare CW continue to be a combination of UPN and WB?!!!! I am outraged! Why are they doing this? Um... could it be because the CW IS a combination of UPN and WB? That's like saying how dare this apple peach juice be made out of apple and peach? The audacity! Everyone knows that apple peach juice should have only pineapples and coconuts. But then again, only senile, old people think that.
What's that Mr. Sharp? You're just going to waddle to your chair and have uncontrollable flatulence? Okay then. I'll just be over here watching Veronica Mars, the best show on television.
There is one thing that is more annoying that witnessing the waste of money and resources created by a bad show like Veronica Mars staying on the air: hearing that you are too stupid to "get it".I only have one thing to say to this Paul Shark. "Mr. Shark, enjoy your last few hours watching 'Dancing with the Stars' and 'WWE Wrestling' because I am going to hunt you down and kill you. Thank you and have a nice day."
How come every low-rated show resorts to that nonsensical defense? If it's low-rated it's because the audience doesn't understand it because they're dumb, or so goes the argument.
Guess what? The public "gets it". Thanks to the repeated promotions, Veronica Mars was heavily sampled and most of the audience that sampled it chose not to watch it again.
The reason, mostly bad writing. The writers (particularly Rob Thomas) seem more interested in showing how "cool" they are than in compelling storytelling, and the result is one tremendous waste of resources that was instrumental in getting UPN folded with the WB.
If the endless parade of bad shows aimed at the "all important" fill-in your target demographic had been any good, those two networks would have been more successful. Sadly for UPN and WB, good shows do not result from endless pandering to a demographic, they result from good writing and direction and from appealing to all through quality.
Sadly, it looks like the new CW network will just be another UPN or WB as they have announced their intention of continuing the senseless pursuit of, frankly ageist, young demographics, which will probably mean another parade of Veronica Marses: empty, low-rated shows animated by a lot of hype.

I was listening to music today and decided that it has been a while since I have provided you readers with a top ___ list. So here we go! Hold onto your hats, hands and legs in the safety restraints because here is Laura's Top 5 Songs ever! Without a doubt, my favorite songs EVER.
1. Comin' Home - City and Colour (AKA Dallas!!!). I freaking love this song. One of my favorite songs.
2. Someday we'll know - New Radicals. It is funny because I absolutely hate the New Radicals but this song just makes me want to dance, and laugh, and cry all at the same time. Aren't I the sight to see?
3. My Chinese Jacky Song. To those of you who don't know this song, you are missing out on some mega, uber hot Chinese actions. OW!
4. Like the Angel - Rise Against. Like I could ever have a top 5 list of music and not have rise against on it. Do you think I want to be struck down by the wrath of the music gods? No siree bob!

I think in the spirit of Auntie-hood, I am going to introduce you to the newest addition to my auntie world.
This is Nathaniel. He is just over a month old I believe. He is a cutie. But as you can see, in very subtle ways, he is a little bit of a whitey. I imagine that those white genes will emerge further when he grows up and becomes white-washed like his auntie Laura. Ah, and that will be a proud time for all of us.

Sometimes I feel as though I am underappreciated. I am smart and funny goddamnit! But people don't laugh, or feel compelled to have comments about things that I write, and more than anything, they don't write odes testifying to my brilliance! I want worshippers, and people who idolize me goddamnit! I am underappreciated. I want people to read my musings and thrash around because they are either a) laughing so hard at my brilliance or b) because they can't comprehend my brilliance; it is simply too great for their little minds to take. And really, all I want is to be loved on a global scale. Love me. Please?
